The Original Adam Garcia

Saturday Night Fever Show Reports

THE LAST SHOW - 17TH APRIL 1999

Sad memories of a brilliant last performance. More pictures to come over the next few days - so check back.

Here's how I saw it - how was it for you.. Mail me and tell me of your memories of the last show and I'll put them on.

So here it was - the last show and don't think anyone could truly believe it. I certainly didn't.

Adam come to the front of the stage grinning just like I'd seen him do 78 times before and I tried not to think that this would be the last time I would ever see him do this. It was almost surreal - after the hyper activity of the matinee to see as straight down the line performance of the show as we'd seen in months.

Mr Stigwood was in evidence in the Royal Box being joined for the second half by Arlene. Obviously wanting to check out the original cast potentially for future productions. So the whole cast including Adam were on their best behaviour putting everything into their performances.

It was diffiicult to comment objectively on the show as I saw most of it through misted eyes. The crowd were very enthusiastic - greeting each thrust of those lithe hips with screams of delight which seemed to amuse the boy immensely - bringing that lovely devilish sparkle to those green/blue eyes.

Night Fever was damn near perfect - YSBD was so sexy it was almost painful to watch. When he knelt down just in front of me to take the applause at the end of the first half - i just wanted to capture the moment in my memory forever. Jive Talkin was a great company piece with everyone throwing every ounce of energy into the dancing. Sam and Gareth particularly giving their all.

As Anita and Adam played out each scene you could almost sense their real sadness that it was coming to an end. At the end of What Kind of Fool - Anita was in tears with Adam genuinely comforting her as he led her off to that bench.

The dance contest was perfection and seeing the two of them glide across the floor together for one last time was one of the most heart wrenching moments. But the real heart-break was yet to come. That last rendition of Immortality - as he hit the first note goosepimples came up on my arms, my heart started thumping and floods of tears sprang to my eyes. By the time he had got into the second verse virtually every girl in the house was sniffing. By the time he hit the last note the applause was deafening through the sobs and he looked genuinely touched. You could almost sense Adam and Anita saying goodbye to each other in the way they sang HDIYL and at the front of the stage Anita was crying again and Adam really hugging her. And then it was all over.

The standard encore went by in a bit of a blur - Tara was crying, Anita was threatening to cry, the boys looking stunned. Richard C hugged Adam when he went over to dance at the right hand side of the stage. Audience on their feet cheering and waving. The longed for extra encores or speeches never came and the cast looking exhausted disappeared to the back of the stage hugging and kissing each other.

I CAN'T BELIEVE IT'S REALLY OVER CAN YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
