Saturday Night Fever Show Reports
Thursday 1st April
It being April Fools Day we were expecting a hilarious show full of jokes and japes. We couldn't have been more wrong!!!!
This was the most focused I have seen Adam since last summer. No flirting with the front row, very little making eyes at Anita or Tara.
He only nearly lost it about twice - which bearing in mind what has been happening in recent shows must be something of a record.
A little bit of joshing on the bridge where he and Mike were pretending to sing into microphones followed by a little Tap Dance but that was it. The backing singers were missing during Disco Duck and at one point Richard said "Come on join in if you know the words" to the audience.
Adam didn't even look tired - which is unusual for a Thursday. (Mum must be making sure he's getting enough sleep). He looked absolutely pristine and perfect. The newly cut hair was fastened down perfectly and in the white suit he looked just a dream.
He danced the Dance Contest with absolute precision - every move pronounced and smooth.
Immortality was gobsmacking - on the third line he took his voice down really soft , I burst into tears and carried on sobbing (as quietly as I could) right through to the end.
Acting was at his best particularly in the emotional scenes like the shouting match with his mother and the bench scene with Anita after Bobby's demise.
At the Stage Door Adam looked distracted - politely signing and smiling but not really there - no jolly japes or accents for the waiting throng - Mum and L waited back on the ramp. L carrying one of those huge cards addressed to Adam and Mum carrying an elaborate looking vase. Perhaps the boy was suffering from post "long shopping trip" syndrome - who knows? (HL)
Saturday 3rd April Matinee
We had planned an Adam overdose day today, but after waiting at the SD until 1.45 we realised that wasn't gonna happen . No sign of AG. We gave Mike a chance but ... no disrespect to his fans meant here...he's just not Adam, is he? Those hips did nothing for us. A little investigation revealed that Adam was injured, and had been told to rest by the Physio. Nobody knew whether he was off for both shows or just the matinee.
Saturday 3rd April- Evening
A dilemma. Do we go in for the evening or not? Well we did and boy was it a good decision. Adam had made a miraculous recovery and was on TOP form.
You know how the expression at the start tells you what sort of show you're in for, well, he grinned THAT grin and we braced ourselves! One slip up early on saw Ad's drop a pizza and wonder what to do with the empty hand, but he got through it like a pro.
The shirt wasn't exactly securely fastened in the bedroom scene and much to our delight we were dealt a large portion of chest. He then proceeded to wander round the stage pulling at the lapels of his shirt and flashing nipples to all (including RC).
Shirt incident no 2 - had a bit of trouble getting himself straightened out when he put on his jacket for the basketball scene and Tara had to sort him out ..bless!!
All the serious bits were very serious tonight, you could even feel a sort of tension in the air. Immortality was the best ever. Found ourselves picturing April 17th and promptly burst into tears. Simon performed a completely flawless Tragedy - you wouldn't think that voice could come out of such a sweet little bloke.
Adam couldn't thank the audience enough during the finale. It looked like he realised he's only got 2 more Saturday Nights left (blub). I don't think anyone would complain if you changed your mind Adam... except Ben of course! (Suzi,Em and Danielle)
Monday 5th April
Adam hit the front of the Stage with a wicked grin and you just had that feeling that the japes were back. And they were although part of a more clearly focussed and polished performance than you would have thought possible with a couple of weeks left.
It started in the Disco scene when he accidently stood on Bobby''s foot - resulting in him threatening to kick him in each of three scenes after that. And Simon saying at the end of the Basketball scene - "It's just like waiting to put on your Boogie Shoes - if your foot's not broken." I'm also fairly convinced that the three times I saw Anita tap Adam's nether regions during the Disco and dance studios scenes weren't accidental as she had a huge smile on her face (who wouldn't) and he seemed to be swerving his hips and putting his hands in the way of his crotch more often than normal.
The bridge was full of the most lewd gestures I've ever seen culminating in the boy licking all his fingers one by one very salaciously. Tara nearly lost it and had to look away. And the tongue would just not stay inside his lips. He had to push it back in very elaborately with his fingers at one point and was trying to lick Tara's face before Jive Talkin.
Dancing and Immortality were breathtaking in their perfection. Also Pili was off so Laura Jane stood in as Maria for the first time and managed to perform the one - handed lift - WELL DONE GIRL.
Stage Door a complete sea of girls. Adam smiling and chatting but looking like he didn't have a clue as to how or when he was gonna get home. It's only gonna get worse over the next couple of weeks and it wouldn't surprise me if they have to start smuggling him out the front to prevent a riot.
