The Original Adam Garcia

Cadillac Ranch - Show Report
Wednesday March 29th 2000

Adam's first scene is moving props in the dark - but you'd recognise that profile anywhere. When the lights come back up he's driving a jeep - well to be more precise a car seat, steering wheel and front bumper with headlights and is giving Bradley the benefit of his wisdom on how to seduce girls.

He's looking cocky, cool and confident. And he's also enjoying his work. Chris (Adam's character) exudes sexuality in a very self assured way - something which you just know isn't alien at all to Mr Garcia.

Anyway before we launch completely into gush mode - one thing is truly disturbing about this play - the glorification of bodily functions. Two specific scenes examine the artistic nature of urination and vomitting. "Look at the patterns mine makes in the sand. It looks like a Jackson Pollock" exclaims Bradley before turning and pissing on Chris's shiny boots.

And then while Chris is making a pretty damn sexy attempt to seduce his girly - Bradley has wandered off to puke up that morning's breakfast pancakes and photograph them. Worrying that!!!!

I know I'm rambling all over tonight - but it is late and you have to remember two nights in a row in the presence of the Immortal one after almost twelve months is darn near enough to turn a girl's head. Even Billy Ray Cyrrus couldn't spoil the evening.

So the fight scene which ensues after Chris's second attempt to seduce Alex by slow dancing and offering himself on "a platter" (calm down, calm down...)is a wonder to behold. Tonight James and Adam brawled on the table so hard it cracked and the legs started to give out from under it. (Is there enough in the Props budget to buy another for tomorrow night I wonder). Adam then has his face smashed hard into the table and is left sprawling unconcious on the floor (any volunteers to administer the kiss of life). As he comes too he stares in dismay at his very squashed black stetson and wails as he exits stage "I think he's broken my jaw"

Other items of note were Adam's friends in the audience including Laura Aron (Adam's publicist) Laetitia Ray (Adam's partner) and Tim Noble (actor chum).

And most memorable moment for me was Adam was walking backwards to exit the stage delivering dialogue. I was sitting right on the edge of the front row and for one sweet (or more like disasterous) moment it looked like he wasn't going to turn enough and was about to land right on my knee. CJ who was sitting next to me says the look of abject panic on my face was priceless.
Till tomorrow all......
