BIRDY

Adam appeared in Birdy first at the Drum Theatre Plymouth in 1996. It then transferred to the Lyric Hammersmith - running 15 July - 17 August 1996. It received it's West End premiere at the Comedy Theatre on 25 February 1997.This page carries all the news from the Production.

Plot Outline

Two friends who grew up together have now both been traumatised during the 2nd World War. "Birdy" is now in the Army mental hospital, believing he is a bird and "Al" his best friend has been asked to try and help cure him, even though he himself is suffering mentally. The play switches between their school days (with the young men on top of a rotating set) and the present day - on the stage down below.

Adam's Character

Adam played Young Alfonso Columbato - a boy of seventeen who is beaten by his father and is forever trying to demonstrate a macho image, while gently helping Birdy.

Adam puts his tongue on a frozen railway line to prove it won't get stuck - of course it does and when a train is coming the only way to get him free is for Birdy to piss on his tongue - nice huh!
