It's the directorial debut from Shine screenwriter Jan Sardi. Who has also written the screenplay.
A story which transports us between small-town Australia and Rural Italy in the 1950's for a bitter-sweet comic tale of two devoted, yet wildly dissimilar, brothers and the bride who - as Fate would have it - arrives from Italy betrothed to one, only to fall madly in love with the other.
An Australian/United Kingdom co-production, Love's Brother is produced by Jane Scott (Shine, Head On) and Sarah Radclyffe (The War Zone, Cousin Bette).
Joining them are
- Cinematographer Andrew Lesnie (Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Babe),
- Editor Veronika Jenet (Rabbit Proof Fence, Portrait of a Lady),
- Production designer Paul Heath (Soft Fruit, Head On),
- Costume designer Anna Borghesi (The Kelly Gang, Pitch Black),
- Make-up artist Lesley Vanderwalt (Scooby Doo, Moulin Rouge)
- and Paul Pattison, whose cosmetic wizardry on Braveheart garnered an Oscar.
Adam stars with Giovanni Ribisi (The Gift, Gone in Sixty Seconds, Saving Private Ryan) as the passionate siblings whose lives are thrown into chaos by the dreamy bride-to-be, played by rising British star Amelia Warner (Nine Lives, Quills, Mansfield Park).
Co-stars include
- Silvia De Santis (In Love and War, My House in Umbria),
- Barry Otto (Oscar and Lucinda, Kiss or Kill)
- Eleanor Bron (Iris, The House of Mirth)
Jane Scott the Producer says "Like the film itself, Love's Brother has long been a dream project for Jan Sardi and I, one that we have nurtured for many years ever since completing Shine.

The film was premiered at the Santa Barbara Film festival to a very positive response. AICN said about the film "LOVE'S BROTHER is by far the best film I've seen at this festival, the first true-blue surprise flick that completely won me over. I've seen some good stuff so far, but none of them hit me as dead on as LOVE'S BROTHER. "
And then said about Adam "Garcia shows a lot of natural talent. It's clear that he's really comfortable in front of the camera. I believe that Garcia will be the next big thing, an Aussie that can act and is loaded down with charm. "

14/7/2003 EXCLUSIVE
Jane Scott the Producer of Love's Brother shared with us the following update.
"We haven’t quite finished LOVE’S BROTHER yet. Delivery takes a while and is always a bit frustrating because the film is actually finished. Anyway, I can report that Palace will be releasing in Australia and although they were hopeful they could do so in November, I think they simply don’t have enough time to build awareness. So they are aiming at the New Year – don’t have a date yet.
Italy is the only other country I can confirm where the film will be released in the early northern Spring (via Mikado)."
"The handbill that Arclight used for Cannes this year (the one on the website) – won’t be the final poster key art – that is still being designed."
"I can report that Adam’s performance in LB is absolutely superb and EVERYONE will swoon when they see him. We saw Adam recently in London, where we completed his ADR (post syncing the sound) on the film. He was relaxed and in fine form – he can be incredibly funny and cracks me (and everyone else) up with his deliciously wicked humour."
"We will be releasing the most stunning album with the film (composed by the Academy award winning Stephen Warbeck) on Sony Classical."
Jane has also kindly provided us with some terrific Production Pictures .Thank you so much Jane for keeping us in the picture - we really can't wait to see the film.
