The next scene is Vi at home in New Jersey, with her friend Gloria holding 'The Village Voice,' looking at an ad for the Songwriters Showcase, featuring Violet's name.
Gloria: I can't believe your name's in the paper…I'm getting this framed.
Vi: (calling to her dad, in another room) Dad, if you're not ready in five minutes, I'm gonna leave without you!
Dad: Keep your pants on, will ya? I'm physically challenged! (His leg is still in a cast.)
I've only got three rolls of film…I hope that's enough.
Vi: Dad, I'm only singing one song…
Dad: Right…better go get another one…
The next scenes are of Vi, Gloria and Dad frantically driving into New York to go to the songwriters showcase. Vi is nervous, and says she can't go through with it. She pulls a U-turn, nearly causing several cars to crash. Dad yells "Are you forgetting I was recently in an horrific car accident?!" He assures her she's already a star, and together Gloria and Dad convince Vi to keep driving toward the city. They're late, and have to hurry.
The next scene is at the venue where Vi is supposed to sing her song. The coyotes arrive with Lil-and an attitude. When the hostess asks if she can help them, they all look at her as if she'd said something really stupid and in unison reply, "NO!" The music director looks at his watch, and says to an assistant, "The house band has been on for 15 minutes…if she's not here in five, she's bumped." Cut to Vi's car, screeching to a stop at the front entrance. Dad says, "Gee, now that we're here, I'm feeling a little nervous." Gloria glares at him and says sarcastically, "Thank you, Mr. Sanford!" Vi is having second thoughts again. Dad says, "Uh, probably just car sick. Forget I mentioned it. I'm fine! Have a great show…" Vi is frozen in her seat. Gloria says, "Vi…get'chor butt in there! We're right behind you!"
The next scene is a pan of all the people in the audience: Gloria and Dad, Lil, Rachel, Cammie and a house packed with people. But no sign of Kevin. The announcer introduces Violet. She stands in the spotlight, looking ready to start singing. The music starts. The band plays…and she freezes. Cut to the worried faces in the audience. Vi panics, and says "I'm sorry."
At this moment, a hand reaches from offscreen toward a huge light lever, pulls it down and suddenly the room is completely dark. There are gasps and murmuring from the audience. Violet, in darkness, looks across the stage and sees it was Kevin who pulled the lever. He smiles that smile again, giving her courage-she smiles back-all is forgiven! and starts singing a cappella. "Under a lover's sky, gonna be with you…and no one's gonna be around…if you think that you won't fall, well just wait until…'til the sun goes down…" At that moment, the lights go up and she completes her song, full of courage and hope and love for Kevin, who exchanges sweet smiles with her throughout her performance.
During her performance, a drunk in the audience calls out to her, "Come on baby, shake it, shake it!" He's sitting next to Rachel, the coyote nicknamed "New York Bitch," who's been in therapy for "anger management." Even though she's seemed indifferent to Vi/Jersey throughout the film, she's eager to shut the guy up. Lil realizes that Rachel is mad, and warns her, "Don't do it Raych-he's a big guy and you're still on probation..." She answers, "Don't worry, those classes are really paying off." Then she hauls her elbow back and cold-cocks him! All the while, Vi continues triumphantly.
The song segues into a shot of Coyote Ugly and a title appears on the screen "Three Months Later"…
