The Original Adam Garcia

SNIPPETS FROM THE INTERVIEWS

From Director David McNally’s comments in the “Mr. O’Donnell” segment:
McNally mentions that once they cast Piper, they were looking for someone who “fit” with her…age, looks, chemistry, etc. “We were despairing a bit—then we saw this tape…our casting director found a tape, she did some digging and found a tape—he was in the London cast of SNF” McNally said that Adam had been filming BM while they were looking for their Kevin—“…Adam had that, oh, I don’t know, what Jerry (Bruckheimer) would call ‘that movie star quality’…you just want to look at him, you don’t want to take your eyes off him…”

From an interview with Adam commenting on Violet in the “Mr. O’Donnell” segment:
(He looks GORGEOUS in this interview, btw) Commenting on the fish market scene, which is shown in a clip, and delivered in typical straight-face Adam style: “I take her to a fish market…and that’s probably one of the most romantic things…I could never have thought of that; that’s far too romantic for me personally—but I may use that…depends upon the fish!”

From the same "Mr. O'Donnell" segment:
Piper says part of Kevin’s appeal is that he keeps surprising Violet, he makes her feel comfortable enough so that she finally has no fear of performing. Then, as an afterthought, she giggles and says, “Plus, he’s so cute, you know, who wouldn’t want to perform for him!?!”

From the “Shakin’ It” segment in the Coyote 101 feature:
There’s a clip of Adam practicing his moves—shirtless!—on the bar. Cut to Adam talking to the camera. He says, “I dance on a bar…I strip! I’m probably not quite as nice to look at as perhaps some of the girls who dance on the bar…but I’m giving it my all.” ($¢ comment: don’t count on it Adam—there are plenty of us who would rather see you dance ANY day!)

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE SCENE BY SCENE "COYOTE COMMENTARY"

This is a feature that allows you to click on the gals’ (Piper, Isabella, Tyra, Maria and Bridget) comments while you’re actually watching the movie. Very frustrating, however, was the fact that they didn’t always comment on what was going on onscreen! Especially annoying when Adam was onscreen and they spoke of other things!

Scene where Violet sees Kevin for the first time:
Piper says she really loves the song playing (it’s the one called, “Wherever You Go” by Alex Band & Aaron Kamin). She comments that she doesn’t know why it was left off the soundtrack because it’s really good and the band was so cute, too. When Adam as Kevin makes his entrance across the bar, one of the Coyotes comments, “He’s so hot in this scene!”
Bridget: (To Piper) “Was it love at first sight for you then…”
Piper: “Oh! This scene was like…(said very dramatically)‘it’s my destiny!’”
Isabella: “I don’t know if you know but Adam Garcia is like a real dancer —he used to do SNF in London…”
Piper: “He does this one dance move where he dances like, um, Grover in Sesame Street—you just see it for a second but it’s later, so when it comes I’m gonna show it to you—I was so excited when it got into the movie!”
Isabella: “He likes to—when he acts—he likes to throw a lot of different lines…”
Bridget: “Improvising…it’s so funny…”

The scene of Vi meeting Kevin in the alley, where she’s trying to give him her tape
Piper explains that they were shooting that scene in an alley in Los Angeles, not NY and there were rats in the garbage screeching! She and Adam had a hard time keeping a straight face ‘cos they kept hearing those rats! She also said that almost all the “outside” scenes were filmed in NY (except that alley scene, and Violet’s house which was in New Jersey) and that the inside scenes were all filmed on soundstages in LA—again, except the house scenes. So that’s how you can figure where they were at times during the filming.

The scene where Kev is following Vi on the streets of NY
The Coyotes comment that most of the scenes were shot out of sequence.
Piper: “Adam and I had a pretty good time when we were working—we seem to be shooting a lot of our scenes at night—so we’re always pretty tired. And Adam tap dances when he’s tired, which is always a bit bizarre ‘cos you’re trying to figure what you’re gonna do and Adam’s like going down the street “dr-rrr-ttttppp” (makes tapping sounds) and tapping down the street!”
Isabella: “I love his accent…it’s so cute and charming!”
Piper: “Adam thought my outfit looked like Brittany Spears so he kept doing that Brittany Spears dance down the street…where she’s in the school with the little gray outfit with the pigtails…”
Tyra: “From the ‘Crazy’ video…”
Piper: “Is that it? Yeah, he knew the whole dance which I thought was a bit bizarre!”

The scene where the Coyotes are in the diner and Vi sees them for the first time
This was the first scene the girls all shot together. They had no rehearsal for it, mostly adlibbed. The close up of Cammie’s (Isabella’s) thigh with the tatoo is NOT hers…she said, “when I saw the movie, I was shocked…that’s not me!”

Kitchen scene where Vi goes to get her tape back from Kevin
Piper: (excitedly) “That was the ‘Grover’ move!!!”
Bridget: “I love this scene!”
Isabella: “See…you could see the whole professional dancing thing—you can tell his moves are like—it just doesn’t happen randomly…he knows what he’s doing!"
Piper: “And they do that hamburger flip and catch it with the bun…it was awesome when they did it—everybody was dead amazed! Leave it to Adam to have a whole scene to do but what he works on is the ‘Grover’ move and the hamburger flip!” (The girls all laugh)

Adam’s Strip Scene
Piper: “This is my favorite scene…” ($c comment: Isn’t it everyone’s???)
Tyra, believe it or not, starts talking about the cost of apartments in NY as opposed to housing in LA! Adam is halfway through his strip before they even comment on him!!! Adam takes off his shirt…
Piper: “Look at that fish-thing move that he did (when Adam flexes his belly while taking off his shirt)…I don’t know what he did…he’s like touching his nipples! They had to keep re-choreographing this scene ‘cos he’s such a good dancer and they were like, ‘no one’s gonna believe that you’re just a regular guy’…so they had to keep dumbing down the dancing…”
Isabella: “Regular ‘joe’…”
Piper: “Right, he could dance too well…”
One thing noticed in the DVD: $¢ previously reported that the woman who purchased Kevin was named Connie, as one of the other ladies yelled, at the end of the auction, “Connie, he’s yours!” According to the subtitles (a feature one can turn on and off on the DVD), the line is “Come on up, honey, he’s yours!”
Piper: “You gotta look at the lady that wins…she’s all over him when she gets up on the bar…!”
Tyra: “I love his face…” (the girls all hoot and holler in the commentary!) Onscreen, Sandy Rosenfeld, who won the bidding, is sliding down the front of Kevin—“…now watch where she goes!!! Look at his face!!!” (more hoots and hollers from the girls)

Greek diner scene where Kevin shows Vi the comic book
There was a lot of discussion among those of us on the website about Kevin’s line. Again, from the subtitles, here’s the official line: “It not cute. It’s very rugged and manly. It’s just a bit kinky, huh?”

Breakfast on the bonnet of the car scene
Piper comments that this scene was the first where she and Adam worked together. She said some of the dialogue was added later, two weeks before the movie was to open! The addition was filmed on a Hollywood sound stage, inside, and they used fans to make it look like wind was blowing through her hair. She also said it was very difficult to get her head in exactly the same position as when she first filmed it. And it was uncomfortable on top of the car.

First Kiss Scene (after the fish market)
Onscreen, Violet opens the door and sees Kevin… Isabella: (To Piper) “Aren’t you like getting chills right now?”
Piper: (laughs) This kiss that we do? Thirty-one takes!!!
Bridget: “I think he kept on messing up on purpose…”
Piper: “No! We were trying very hard to do it right and they would just be like, ‘no…no’—I felt so…I never felt like more of a loser in my life—because every kiss was no good. “I think that was maybe the most takes we did.” ($¢: sorry, but I’m finding it hard to be sympathetic, Piper)
Isabella: “Then you feel like, ‘am I such a bad kisser?’”
Piper: “I know! ‘Why is my kiss worthless?’”

Vi goes to Kev’s apartment for her goodnight kiss
The commentary by the girls was totally UNRELATED to what was on screen! A travesty that they didn’t comment on his cute knee-length Calvins….

Kevin and Vi’s Love Scene
Ditto above! Finally, Piper comments.
Piper: “I was really nervous during this scene—these cardboard cut-out guys? See how flimsy they are—I kept wanting to hang my clothes over their eyes and stuff…and I kept knocking them over…and I’m trying to be like all sexy and then I knock over JFK…In these reaction shots on Adam while we’re doing the strip scene…I’m just standing next to the camera and would start stripping…it was nerve-wracking.” Onscreen, Vi is pulling down her slip…One of the girls says, “There you go!” (They laugh.)
Piper: “This scene actually gets a lot heavier but they edited it out…” ($¢: A TRAGEDY AND TRAVESTY FOR ALL TIME!!!) Onscreen, the long pan shot of Adam’s sheet-draped gorgeous body…
Piper: “Look! …EXCUSE ME!!! I know…that sheet was very carefully placed by the set people…”
One of the girls: “Yeah…taped to his uh, …”
Onscreen, Vi sings to Kevin “I Do Love You”
Piper: “When I have to play this song here…I think I was the most nervous I ever was. I was so, sooo nervous…and I’m wearing a sheet! I was like ‘please don’t let my sheet fall off!’”
Later on in the commentary....
Piper: “My whole family came too (to the premiere)—so when we get to that pre-sex scene…I was like sweating ‘cos here I am next to my grandma and my dad!”
Bridget: “I thought there was more of that sex scene in there so I was like thinking ‘what is this gonna be like for Piper?!’”

Coyote’s Water Dance on the Bar
The girls said that the crew was really nice and they heated the water. They said it felt really good and was quite fun to shoot.
Maria: “This is a favorite for the guys…they really love this ‘wet T-shirt’ scene!”

Kevin’s Bar Fight Scene
Piper: “That jukebox that just broke? We only had one piece of glass and Adam had to fly through it and they were like ‘don’t screw it up Garcia ‘cos if you miss it’s all we got’ but we got it on the first take…
Maria: “ I think Adam Garcia is so hot…he’s SO HOT…especially when he dances—when he does his striptease—OH MY GOD! I remember that day on the set we were all just going nuts for him!”

Kevin’s Dramatic ‘I Don’t Have A Family’ scene
Can you believe this??? The girls’ commentary was all about how well they got along with each other…not one word about Adam here!

Last Kiss on the bar at the film’s end
One of the girls reminds Piper that the last kiss was filmed while Piper and Adam were on their knees on the bar! Because the angle was wrong for the camera, they were too tall when they stood up, so they had to be on their knees. On another part of the DVD, this shot is shown so you actually see both actors snogging while on the bar on their knees. Strange!
Piper: “Right after this, I fell off the bar!” ($¢: An appropriate reaction, in my book!)
