It's now over a month since we last saw you in London - how have you been filling your time over the last few weeks?
It's been five weeks since I finished SNF. I had two weeks off in London and I went to Amsterdam for a couple of days with my two best friends who were over to see the show. Came back a little tired - for Queens Day weekend.
Then I left and went to Thailand for two weeks - it was fantastic. It was sunny - I got a tan and I ate good food and I relaxed. It was good.
I've been back in Sydney for a week - staying with Mum. I started rehearsals TODAY! So that's 5 weeks exactly!!!
The Website Girls are having a party in Break for the Border to mark your 26th. How are you planning to celebrate your birthday?
I'm going to a country club and having lunch with my Uncles and Aunts and the rest of my family, who I haven't seen in a couple of years. Other than that
I think Tara Wilkinson, Sam McAvoy and Alexia Leontiou are gonna be over here, so I'm gonna have a little party with them.
The weather in the UK is still pretty cold and miserable. Has the weather in Sydney been warm enough to allow you to put on your wetsuit or is the old Funky Dog hat still mandatory?
Both!! The weather's been absolutely gorgeous since I arrived. The only time it's rained has been today and Saturday I think. But the surf was up so
I donned the wetsuit and have been for a surf.
And the Funky Dog Hat is here. It's just about to go in the wash actually.
It's time for its yearly wash. But I'll be donning the wetsuit a few more times. Actually gonna try and wear both at the same time.
Of all the many work offers you received while in SNF, why did you choose this particular project for your real movie debut? (Other than the obvious opportunity to dance wearing natural fibres!)
Despite all the ludicrous amounts of offers , of which there weren't many anyway - I've known about this film for two or three years and was sort of committed to it years ago in spirit. And as soon as they started getting it together I made my commitment then.
How will the preparation for playing Sean (rehearsals, training etc) differ from the intensive run up to playing Tony?
I don't have to sing!! I can go and have a beer!! Yeah!!
I guess I know most of the people involved in the show. It feels like there's a lot less pressure on, doing this film than - I remember the first day of rehearsals at Saturday Night Fever - I was panicking. Yeah - I can do an Australian accent. It's a lot more relaxed, it's something I'm more familiar with - an Australian way of life and I know it so It's easier somewhat.
But I haven't started dancing yet so I don't know how much it's gonna hurt!
Bootmen is almost an "old boys" reunion - giving you the opportunity to team up with Dein Perry and Chris Horsey again. Are you looking forward to working with them again?
ABSOLUTELY NOT!! I find Dein Perry a despicable arrogant man and Chris Horsey is just a loser. So I - yeah - I resent the fact that they are here with me.
But everyone else is really nice.
While we know that Sean is loosely based on Dein - what similarities are there between Sean the character and Adam the actor?
Well because I have been influenced a great deal by Dein Perry (chuckle), I think he's moulded my life anyway - so I don't think it's going to be really difficult to be him. And I guess I can make it as much me. It's sort of like Saturday Night Fever - I get to be cocky and arrogant - and that's what people assume I'm like. So yeah - I think it's gonna be quite quite a lot like me . I get to joke around. Not that I did that in Saturday Night Fever cos I was so disciplined.
Eight weeks is a fairly tight schedule for shooting a movie - no doubt involving some very long days. How are you going to cope with the early morning and will you still get to be a "loser" on Sundays?
Absolutely! Absolutely! I can't stop my hobby!
Early mornings - I mean we start rehearsing at eight o'clock every morning and it sucks!!! And I hate mornings but I should be alright. And yeah, Sundays , I think is the only day I'm going to get off. Yeah I'll be a loser. Turn on the box again. We've got lots of sport here as well.
We're all eagerly awaiting your return to the UK in the Autumn. Any news on your next project?
Don't know anything yet. It could be a short film happening in London in the Autumn. Or maybe something else after this in Australia.
And Birdy's cropped up again in New York - but that will be sometime next year if it comes up at all.
And finally ....what are your fondest memories of the year you spent playing Tony?
I don't know
Meeting all you lovely fans. Christian's chocolate was a pretty big highlight.!
Funnily enough - seeing as I became huge after the bags of it I got near the end of the show.
I don't know, there's so many, I don't know where to begin really. It was just a good year, a very good year and although I'm glad it's over I still - you know - can now look back on it and go - it was a good year. Instead of when I was cursing it!!
